What is the meaning of my life, what is my purpose and what am I doing here?
These questions have occupied me lately, maybe it is because we just entered a new year, and new years are equal with new beginnings. At least I think so. Many of us make New Year resolutions and thus start new commitment, plans, and set new goals.
Well setting goals is the easy past, just figure out what you want to the next few months, and this can be your goal. Sounds simple enough, but it sometimes figuring out what you want to do is the hardest.
We all have dreams though, some dreams may be clearer than others, but we all have dreams. Dreaming about what we want, where we want our live to go, and where we want to be “when we grow up” are keys to finding out what our goals could be. They go hand in hand: goals and dreams. Dreams will give you the initial idea, and help with the visualization of your end goal. Once you have this figured out, you can set your goal. Break your goal down in smaller goals so you can see the steps you need to take to complete your goal. Failing to do this can severely limit you in reaching your goal and fulfilling your dream.
Sometimes we set our self a goal, or have a dream, and we are not sure how we can fulfill this. This is kind of what has been happening to me. I had this goal of getting a certain job, and I worked really hard into getting the qualifications I needed in order to get this job. Well I applied about 10 times for this type of job in different areas. And every time I did get passed over for someone with more qualifications. So I finally had to say to myself, enough already, don’t you get it? You are not meant to get this job! Some may call this Karma.
Sometimes we don’t want to face the message. However all this work and time I spend in learning new skills and taking on different jobs was not wasted. I kept evolving learning new skills, improving my skills and growing personally. I just had to adjust my goals. My dream is pretty well the same for the type of job I would want, I am just getting there following a different path then I had planned at first. So a couple of days ago I was offered a job that is very close to what I had envisioned as my dream job!!
Persistence and hard work, and not giving up when things don’t quite work out at first are paying off for me in the end…
